ARHS F3A #664 Powered Steamtown 2025 Christmas Train

By Steve Olear

On December 6, 2025, DL&W 664 (decked out in holiday lights, antlers, and ARHS flags) pulled the Steamtown “Christmas in a Small Town" train along the Carbondale branch.

This successful event was done in conjunction with Steamtown and the Iron Horse Society.  Starting at the east end working west, we dropped off Santa and Mrs. Claus at each station: Carbondale, Archbald, Jessup, Olyphant, and Dickson City. With a band playing songs of the season, holiday cheer was spread to all. At the last stop in Scranton, we delivered a group of dignitaries, including Scranton mayor, Paige Cognetti, and the big man himself, to a crowd of excited children.

What better way to start the Christmas season than trains and Santa Claus! 664 and crew performed flawlessly, making quite the impression on all that attended. Thanks to all that made this possible. Together we put a smile on the faces of many children this Christmas season.

F3A #664 is proudly owned and maintained by volunteers of the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society, Inc. It was restored to operation in 1989 after a multi-year effort that started with an empty shell. You can support this activity by joining the ARHS or by making a financial donation. ARHS members are welcome to join the restoration team for work days at Steamtown.
