Since the ARHS partnered with Steamtown in 2010,thousands of people have seen our F3A 664 operating there or at destinations in Northeast Pennsylvania. The June 24, 2023 excursion to Delaware Water Gap and return was perhaps the 40-th trip “outside the park” since then.

Photographs have appeared on social media and on websites and print publications, made by professionals, ARHS volunteers, railfans and the general public. Many of those watching were younger than the1947 vintage locomotive. The locomotive is detailed and painted as DL&W664, representing units that operated through Scranton until the 1970s.

On June 17, 2023, Rich Jahn made a presentation at Steamtown where he detailed the history of the restoration and subsequent runs of this locomotive. You can see it here: 2023 ARHS at Steamtown's Railfest - YouTube

ARHS volunteers rebuilt the 664A in 1989, and have maintained it since then, acquiring parts, lube oil and other needs with funds donated by ARHS members. The restoration team works at Steamtown most Saturdays between March and October.

ARHS members are welcome to visit the restoration team to see up-close the nature of the work and comradery. Contact us (restoration@anthraciterailroads.org)to make arrangements.
