Members are encouraged to contact Olev Taremae or an ARHS Board Member to present their programs or contacts of people who can present programs related to Anthracite Railroads, e.g., slides, films, videos, DVD’s, or digital programs, or visits to model railroads, as programs are continually needed.
Doug Peters will present his program on the Delaware and Hudson railway.
Former Reading & Northern, current Amtrak employee, Craig Werley will again share slides from the Kantner Brothers collection. Arch and Bruce Kantner roamed Schuylkill County and nearby areas in the 1950’s and 1960’s capturing images of scenes that few others ventured to photograph. This program will concentrate on the Reading Company’s Catawissa Branch.
NOTICE OF PROGRAM CHANGE. Tom Nemeth will be presenting a double feature of two shorter programs. The first will cover the Lehigh Valley Railroad from Oak Island to Bound Brook, home territory for Tom when he was growing up. The second will depict Conrail’s operations on the Bangor & Portland lines, formerly Lackawanna and later Erie – Lackawanna lines.
Douglas Kramer will be sharing his slide taken in the 1970s featuring Horseshoe curve including a derailment and its cleanup.
Harry Owens, raised in on-line town Truckville, has spent decades researching the Lehigh Valley Railroad’s Bowman’s Creek Branch. His illuminating program about obscure branch which once connected Wilkes-Barre and the Waverly/Sayre area is fascinating. Come and learn about this little known line and operation.
Frank Tatnall returns with what promises to be an outstanding program covering the Lehigh Valley Railroad from the 1950’s to the 1970’s.
You will think of Friday the 13th as your lucky day when you see a presentation of the late Dick Samsel’s slides. Rich Jahn will narrate. Members enjoyed a show of Dick’s photography last year. This program covers slides not seen last year.
ARHS LOCOMOTIVES REPRESENTED IN NORFOLK SOUTHERN’S HERITAGE FLEET. Dale Woodland will be our presenter. He has relentlessly sought out and photographed Norfolk Southern’s fleet of Heritage locomotives. His presentation will cover his photography of the locomotives connected to the ARHS: the Lehigh Valley, Central Jersey, Reading and Lackawanna railroads.
DAVE’S DIAMONDS. Fans of the Reading Company are alterted to this program made up of slides from Dave Augsburger’s coverage of the railroad. A good variety of images and subjects have been selected from a box entitled “RDG Mixed”. With slides from both the the 1960’s and 1970’s, there will be trains, long-gone buildings and obscure freight cars.
Fred Wilczewski, JR. will be our presenter. Fred started his career with the Lehigh Valley Railroad. His program will cover the Lehigh Valley Railroad from milepost 1 to milepost 13. This territory includes the Lehigh Valley tugboat operations, Oak Island and NK Tower.
