THE PROTOTYPE

The Lehigh Valley's "Pups" were dynamic brake equipped EMD SW8's with MU capability.  They were generally used in set of three to five, and were originally purchased for use on the mine runs on the Hazelton branch.

The Valley purchased 18 of these units in 1951, numbered 256 through 273.  All were transferred to Conrail in April 1976.  See the Pups page on the Lehigh Valley Railroad Modeler website for more information.
