Membership Renewals

The ARHS is changing its method of handling renewal notices. Individual mailings to remind our members to pay their dues will no longer be sent out. The expiration issue of your membership will be printed right above your address on the cover sheet included with every issue of Flags, Diamonds & Statues magazine. A renewal notice and form very similar to the one we used in the past will also be printed on the back of the cover sheet. I will continue to send out email renewal reminders to those who supply their addresses, so please keep your contact information current.

Be sure not to let your membership lapse, and feel free to ask to be “caught up” on any missed issues should that happen.

Other Announcements

Any members who wish to supply a series of photos linked with a short story that can be made into a multimedia presentation are welcome to contact us. We will do all of the formatting, you will only need to supply the material.

We have established a cooperative relationship with the following bulletin board list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/anthraciterr  To participate in a forum or if you have questions about Anthracite Railroads and this organization you can join the list for free.

Thanks to your generosity, the ARHS has been able to repaint our F-3A into the Lacakawanna Freight scheme (#664) and also maintain the unit in operable condition. This has not been cheap, however.  A set of batteries costs about $4000, and we bought a new set for the 664 in late 2008, details of which have been provided in the Anthracite Extra.   We've also spent about $5000 for the paint and sundry supplies.  This project received major attention at the recent NRHS convention in Scranton, along with articles and cover photos in Railpace and Railfan & Railroad Magazine.

So. now the B-unit is the next major project.  We've already bought two wheelsets (@ $5000 each) and will need to pay for their transportation and installation.  This unit will also need batteries ($4000 minimum), but that's not an immediate need right now.  We can also expect another $5000 in paint, along with the cost to move the unit from Winslow Jct., NJ, to Scranton, so we can re-unite the A-B-A set.   We've set up a Donation button on the Membership Services page for those of you who'd like to donate via PayPal.  Paper checks are always welcome, of course!!  Thanks again for your continued support of the ARHS-we couldn't do this without you!!!
